Mary L. Chappell, M.D.

Dr. Mary Chappell is a partner at OBGYN Associates and has been with the group since 1999. Applying her extensive background in Women’s Healthcare and her unique penchant for research and application, Dr. Chappell is exceptionally well equipped to employ the latest and safest surgical techniques. She has been a leading advocate of lower-cost, in-office hysteroscopy and Her Option® cryoablation to treat abnormal uterine bleeding. She also was one of the first physicians in the area to adopt in-office surgical procedures for temporary birth control with Implanon™ implants and permanent birth control using the Essure® procedure. Based upon her knowledge and expertise in these areas, she increasingly is called upon to make presentations on these and other OB/GYN related topics to medical professionals.

Deeply involved in her profession, Dr Chappell was ranked America ’s Top OB/GYN for 2004-2005 by Consumers’ Research Council of America. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology; a member of the Georgia OB/GYN Society, and the Cobb County Medical Society. Dr. Chappell is currently the President of the Atlanta OB/GYN Society. She also has served as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Department of OB/GYN at WellStar Kennestone Hospital .

Dr. Chappell holds the degree of Doctor of Medicine with Honors from the University Of Florida School of Medicine, after which she completed her Internship and Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of North Carolina Medical Center – Chapel Hill. While there, she was named Outstanding Intern and Resident of the Year. She also has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Florida. Her academic awards are numerous, including Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Award. Dr. Chappell is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Chappell takes a compassionate approach to patient care, and provides understandable explanations to patients regarding their medical issues in a direct yet sympathetic manner.
